This chapter discusses the role of gender in economic relations, processes, and outcomes. Gender differences in economic outcomes such as labor force participation and wages have received growing attention from economists in the last several decades – a positive and much needed development in economic thinking. 2016 Level: początkujący Illuminating the role of gender in the economy Alyssa Schneebaum Wirtschaft neu denken: Blinde Flecken in der Lehrbuchökonomie A review of: [1] Intermediate Microeconomics, H.R. The analysis showed three major frames and respective identity offerings, all of which are contextualized theoretically, with prominent reference to the Foucauldian reflection of the science of Political Economy. Surprisingly, none of them encourages the student to think critically, as could have been expected in a pedagogical context. Taken together, economics textbooks appear as a “total structure of actions brought to bear upon possible action” (Foucault), therefore, as a genuine example of Foucauldian power structures. 2019 Level: początkujący The power of economic textbooks: A discourse analysis Lukas Bäuerle Institute of Economics and Philosophy Cusanus Hochschule The article pursues the two related questions of how economists pretend to know and why they want to know at all. It is argued that both the economic form of knowledge and the motivation of knowing have undergone a fundamental change during the course of the 20th century. The knowledge of important contemporary economic textbooks has little in common with an objective, decidedly scientifically motivated knowledge. Rather, their contents and forms follow a productive end, aiming at the subjectivity of their readers. 2019 Level: początkujący An essay on the putative knowledge of textbook economics Lukas Bäuerle Institute of Economics and Philosophy Cusanus Hochschule Designed for both undergraduates and MBA students taking their first course in business economics, this text focuses on introducing students to economics as a framework for understanding business. It is structured around problems that decision-makers face, such as rejuvenating the firm in the face of declining demand. 2004 Level: zaawansowane Business Economics Peter Earl, Tim Wakeley McGraw-Hill Education The Microeconomics of Complex Economies uses game theory, modeling approaches, formal techniques, and computer simulations to teach useful, accessible approaches to real modern economies. 2018 Level: zaawansowane The Microeconomics of Complex Economies Wolfram Elsner, Torsten Heinrich, Henning Schwardt Elsevier Science This book is designed for a one-semester or two-semester course in international economics, primarily targeting non-economics majors and programs in business, international relations, public policy, and development studies. Reinert Cambridge University Press Derek Neal writes that economists must analyze public education policy in the same way they analyze other procurement problems. He shows how standard tools from economics research speak directly to issues in education. For mastering the models and tools that economists of education should use in their work, there is no better resource available.-- 2018 Level: początkujący Information, Incentives, and Education Policy Derek A. Colander, David C. McGraw-Hill Higher Education Mainstream textbooks present economics as an objective science free from value judgements; that settles disputes by testing hypotheses; that applies a pre-determined body of principles; and contains policy prescriptions supported by a consensus of professional opinion. 2012 Level: początkujący The economics anti-textbook Hill, Rod; Myatt, Toni Zed Books Economics After the Crisis is an introductory economics textbook, covering key topics in micro and macro economics. However, this book differs from other introductory economics textbooks in the perspective it takes, and it incorporates issues that are presently underserved by existing textbooks on the market. This book offers an introduction to economics that takes into account criticisms of the orthodox approach, and which acknowledges the role that this largely Western approach has played in the current global financial and economic crisis. 2014 Level: zaawansowane Economics After the Crisis Irene van Staveren Routledge
