This paper starts with an evaluation of three common arguments against pluralism in economics: (1) the claim that economics is already pluralist, (2) the argument that if there was the need for greater plurality, it would emerge on its own, and (3) the assertion that pluralism means ‘anything goes’ and is thus unscientific. Pluralist responses to all three arguments are summarized. The third argument is identified to relate to a greater challenge for pluralism: an epistemological trade-off between diversity and consensus that suggests moving from a discussion about ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ towards a discussion about the adequate degree of plurality. We instantiate the trade-off by showing how it originates from two main challenges: the need to derive adequate quality criteria for a pluralist economics, and the necessity to propose strategies that ensure the communication across different research programs. The paper concludes with some strategies to meet these challenges. 2017 Level: debutante Pluralism in economics: its critiques and their lessons Claudius Gräbner, Birte Strunk Journal of Economic Methodology The current Great Recession, the worst crisis that capitalism has faced since the Great Depression, has failed, at least so far, to generate a change in the teaching and practice of Macroeconomics. This seems bizarre as if nothing has happened and the economists are just going about doing business as usual. In light of this, the current paper attempts to address how Macroeconomics ought to be taught to students at the advanced intermediate level, which gives them an overall perspective on the subject. Level: debutante Plurality in Teaching Macroeconomics Rohit Azad New School for Social Research, Department of Economics New challenges require new approaches. Is economics part of the problem or part of the solution? Probably both. 2021 Level: debutante Diversifying Economics - an Introduction Theresa Steffestun MÖVE (Mehr ökonomische Vielfalt erreichen) - Local Group Netzwerk Plurale Ökonomik The goal of this brief report is to put in one place some of the works that have come out of the movement to reform economics education. True to their training, the student movement for pluralism in economics education has been marked by an impressive amount of research: both on economics education itself and on more topical subjects within economics. 2019 Level: debutante Mapping Pluralist Research - An overview of research within the student movement for pluralism in economics J. Christopher Proctor Oikos International What is economics? What can - and can't - it explain about the world? Why does it matter? 2015 Level: debutante Economics: The User's Guide Ha-Joon Chang Bloomsbury USA This chapter by the Centre of Economy Studies provides a map through the complex jungle of economic theories. It provides key insights and ideas for thirteen core topics in economics, organised by selecting the most relevant theoretical approaches per topic and contrasting them with each other. 2021 Level: debutante Pragmatic Pluralism Sam de Muijnck and Joris Tieleman Economy Studies Economics After the Crisis is an introductory economics textbook, covering key topics in micro and macro economics. However, this book differs from other introductory economics textbooks in the perspective it takes, and it incorporates issues that are presently underserved by existing textbooks on the market. This book offers an introduction to economics that takes into account criticisms of the orthodox approach, and which acknowledges the role that this largely Western approach has played in the current global financial and economic crisis. 2014 Level: adelantado Economics After the Crisis Irene van Staveren Routledge
