In this lecture Mirowski claims that a good critique of and alternative to neoclassical economics should focus on microeconomics. In addition, he claims that mainstream economics is not about a specific "human nature", instead the understanding of markets (partially based on Hayek) is of special importance. As an alternative Mirowski proposes institutionalist economics that builds upon how markets work nowadays (e.g. links to computer science). 2015 Level: perito Should Economists be Experts in Markets or in Human Nature? Philip Mirowski Netzwerk Plurale Ökonomik Caring activities are one central element of feminist economists' analysis – also since in particular unremunerated work is a blind spot in mainstream economics and most other economic paradigms. Those focus on the market sphere: activities are considered as productive and as real labour if they are remunerated and market-intermediated. Goods and services are considered as labour if they create a value which can be traded on the market. Feminist Economics remarks that this perspective creates certain dichotomies and consequent devaluations: unproductive – productive; private – public; unpaid – remunerated OR paid less – well paid; female – male; soft work – hard work; caring – rationality. 2016 Level: debutante Reproductive Labour and Care Exploring Economics Exploring Economics This chapter discusses the role of gender in economic relations, processes, and outcomes. Gender differences in economic outcomes such as labor force participation and wages have received growing attention from economists in the last several decades – a positive and much needed development in economic thinking. 2016 Level: debutante Illuminating the role of gender in the economy Alyssa Schneebaum Wirtschaft neu denken: Blinde Flecken in der Lehrbuchökonomie A review of: [1] Intermediate Microeconomics, H.R. Leonardo Conte Rethinking Economics Switzerland Since Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel Memorial Price in Economic Sciences in 2002, a new branch of economics gained academic and popular interest. That is, the so-called area of behavioural economics. However, some scholars claim that this new area of economics is not changing much of the mainstream paradigm. Why? 2019 Level: adelantado Is Behavioural Economics the New Mainstream? Leonardo Conte Rethinking Economics Switzerland Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) is a school of monetary and macroeconomic thought that focuses on the analysis of the monetary and credit system, and in particular on the question of credit creation by the state. 2020 Level: debutante Modern Monetary Theory Nathalie Freitag Exploring Economics Steve Keen analyses how mainstream economics fails when confronted with the covid-19-pandemic. Mainstream economics has propagated the dismantling of the state and the globalization of production - both of which make the crisis now so devastating. More fundamentally, mainstream economics deals with market systems, when what is needed to limit the virus’s spread is a command system. 2020 Level: debutante The Coronavirus and the End of Economics Steve Keen Exploring Economics An overview of the last century economic theories asking what makes a heterodox economist. This lecture focuses on the evolution of the various academic traditions in economics. Lavoie presents his own typology for categorising seminal work within the post-Keynesian tradition while leaving space to acknowledge that categories are not binary, but can be used to help understand the different traditions, and how they have developed over the last decades. 2019 Level: adelantado History and fundamentals of Post Keynesian Macroeconomics Marc Lavoie FMM This brief note explores the possibility of working towards an enlarged self-definition of economics through economists’ study and appreciation of economic sociology. Common ground between economic sociology and heterodox economics is explored, and some of Richard Sennett’s ideas are used as prompts to raise some pertinent and hopefully interesting questions about economics. In particular, the note revisits the question of whether there is a possibility of changing our understanding of what kind of social scientific work falls within the domain of economics proper once we start critically engaging with work conventionally considered to be outside of that domain. In part, the note is intended to offer undergraduate students in economics – and possibly even those further down the road in their education – food for thought about what constitutes economics. 2016 Level: adelantado On the Possibility of an Enlarged Self-Definition of Economics Daniyal Khan New School for Social Research, Department of Economics Exploring Economics, an open-access e-learning platform, giving you the opportunity to discover & study a variety of economic theories, topics, and methods. 2016 Level: adelantado La Economía Desenmascarada Steve Keen Traducido por Álvaro G. Ormaechea Capitán Swing Libros This is an important contribution that defends the importance of heterodox economics. Since then, alternative views and schools of economics increasingly became minorities in the discipline and were considered 'heterodox'. 2016 Level: adelantado Reclaiming Pluralism in Economics Jerry Courvisanos, Jamie Doughney, Alex Millmow Routledge Mainstream economics almost completely ignores the role power plays in determining economic outcomes, which means it can only provide partial explanations of the distribution of wealth and income, and of the problems associated with inequality and poverty. 2016 Level: adelantado Power and Neoclassical Economics Ozanne, Adam Palgrave Pivot Steve Keen provides an alternative view on Macroeconomics before and after the crisis and outlines different macroeconomic fallacies. Are humans at their core seekers of their own pleasure or cooperative members of society? Paradoxically, they are both. Pleasure-seeking can take place only within the context of what works within a defined community, and central to any community are the evolved codes and principles guiding appropriate behavior, or morality. 2013 Level: adelantado From Pleasure Machines to Moral Communities Geoffrey M.
