What does racism have to do with our 21st century economic system? How can we understand institutions who uphold racism while claiming to value diversity and inclusion? And what does it mean to truly be anti-racist? In this podcast, Ayeisha Thomas-Smith is joined by Arun Kundnani to discuss his new book, What Is Antiracism?: And Why It Means Anticapitalism.

Comment from our editors:

The podcast criticises liberal understandings of racism that only focus on the biases and prejudices of the individual. Instead, Arun Kundnani emphasises the structural basis of racism, namely the unequal distribution of resources. The podcast explains how racism plays an important role in maintaining economic exploitation and shows the link between racism, colonialism and capitalism. In doing so, Kundnani criticises both Marxists, who neglect the role of racism, and liberal anti-racism, which ignores economic issues. The podcast can be recommended to anyone looking for an easily understandable introduction to racial capitalism.
