In this talk Robert Skidelsky analyses how sociology did and could enrich economic analyses, but also how critical sociological insights have been colonised by mainstream economics. From this discussion, the question of what the basic entity of analysis consists of, the individual or the society, emerges. Therefore methodological individualism and methodological holism are compared and critically discussed. Skidelsky’s analysis includes the works and insights of grand scholars like Weber, Polanyi and Veblen.
